Microsoft Names Cheryl Lockett Zubak, President of Work Write, Inc., as HTML Help MVP

MVP LogoPHILADELPHIA, PA, February 23, 1999 - Microsoft today announced that Cheryl Lockett Zubak, president of Work Write, Inc., has been named Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for HTML Help, Microsoft's HTML-based technology for online reference information. Cheryl is a charter member of the Microsoft HTML Help MVP program, which was initiated in 1998.

Microsoft MVPs are experts who volunteer their time in online forums to assist others with a technology. This year's MVPs were nominated by help authors who participate in the many online forums dedicated to online help and user assistance. Microsoft selected the HTML Help MVPs based on nominations from the online help community and industry standing. Microsoft's HTML Help technology ships in Windows 98 and Internet Explorer, and will ship later this year in Windows 2000 and Office 2000.

"Microsoft is pleased to formally recognize the dedication and ongoing contribution of Cheryl Lockett Zubak as Most Valuable Professional for Microsoft's HTML Help technology," says Peter Plamondon, Group Program Manager, Microsoft Developer Relations Group. "Cheryl's presence on online forums, and particularly on the WINHLP -L mailing list, provides in-depth "in the trenches" support for thousands of help authors and technical writers using HTML Help."

"Cheryl is superbly qualified to be part of the MVP program," adds Shane McRoberts, Lead Program Manager for the Microsoft HTML Help team. "As one of the most highly regarded experts in the user assistance profession, it's great to have Cheryl sharing her expertise in HTML Help with others. She's been a great asset in assisting help authors as they shift to today's HTML Help technology from previous online reference technology, WinHelp."

Cheryl Lockett Zubak is president of Work Write, Inc., which specializes in the development of user assistance for the Windows and Web platforms. Cheryl has been developing online help systems since 1983, and Windows help since 1988 (beginning with Windows 2.0). She is coauthor of Designing Windows 95 Help: A Guide to Creating Online Documents, considered a "bible" of help design, and is currently working on a book on HTML-based help design. Cheryl's commitment to the help authoring community is marked by her volunteer service on such online forums as the WINHlP -L listserv, the RoboLIST, countless private emails, and her free webzine, Help Matters, located at http://www.workwrite.com/hm/index.htm.

With her business partner, Ralph Walden, Cheryl is concentrating on building tools and strategies for enhancing the capabilities of HTML Help. In particular, Cheryl and Ralph are focusing on design and implementation ideas for building help into the product interface. Ralph is practically a household word in the online help industry, since, while at Microsoft, he designed and developed WinHelp and was the chief architect behind HTML Help.

The MVP recipients were announced at the Help Authors Choice Awards, sponsored by Microsoft, at the WinWriters Online Help Conference in Seattle in February 1999. During the awards, Cheryl was also named "Best Speaker or Instructor" and "All Time, All Around Help Guru." The Help Author's Choice Awards were held in honor of Ralph Walden, the visionary behind the Microsoft development of WinHelp and HTML Help. In honor of Ralph, the Help Author's Choice Awards have been dubbed the "Walden" awards.
